As trees are essential to the health of our earth, waste wood should be recycled and reused. However, experts estimate that more than 600 tons of timber are sent to landfills in Hong Kong every day. Large wooden pallets, which are primarily used in the logistic industry, account for the most significant proportion. It is a pity that almost all new wooden pallets were discarded because of cheap production and high recycling cost. Kelvin, a returnee from Australia, was determined to help to solve the environmental problems in Hong Kong by giving these precious woods a second life. Thus, he established the first eco-friendly brand of cat litter, Green Paws.

As a cat slave, Kevin understood how important it is to have a cat litter that is easy to use and good for the health of our cats. As there had been wooden cat litters at that time, he came up with the idea of making wooden cat litter with unrecycled wooden pallets that could cater to the masses soon after discovering that there were so many unrecycled wooden pallets in Hong Kong. Then he established a production line that insisted on 100% recycling and production in Hong Kong. His efforts have brought an effective change to the local wood waste problem.

The wooden pallets collected consist of only timbers and iron nails and are highly recyclable. Also, their chemical-free composition makes them an ideal material for cat litter. The first step is to smash the pallets into palm-size, remove the iron nails with magnets, then crush and dry them. The machine will also suck away the dust. Finally, the wood powder will be pressed into granules at a high temperature. This product does not contain any chemical additives. It has little dust, strong water absorption capacity, and natural wood fragrance and disintegrates into powder when it meets water. It is best used with the double-layer cat toilet with a sieve design for a clean environment. Besides the convenience, this product comes with many other benefits, demonstrating a successful example of upcycling. To make the manufacturing process even more eco-friendly, Kelvin even installed solar panels on the whole rooftop of the plant at the beginning of this year. This reduces electricity costs and lowers the temperature of the plant in the long term, allowing him to make his beliefs in environmental protection come true in different ways.
